  • About emerit

  • Many emerit training products have a Professional Certification option so you can receive recognition for your tourism skills and experience. The Professional Certifications are based on National Occupational Standards that are developed and regularly updated by the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC). They are recognized both within Canada and abroad. OTEC partners with the CTHRC to administer and deliver the emerit range of training products and Professional Certifications to organizations, educational institutions and individuals across Ontario.

  • The new OTEC List of Standards and Certifications contains all the emerit National Occupational Standards and Professional Certifications available. The costs for emerit Professional Certifications vary based on the level (front line, supervisory or managerial) and components of the chosen program. For more information regarding certification, please speak with our Manager, Workforce Skills Development, Kamaljeet Singh, (ksingh@otec.org), who will be delighted to answer any questions you may have.

  • For Schools

  • Yes! OTEC’s Service Excellence, Communication Excellence, Ethical Excellence, Self Excellence and Team Excellence are available for delivery in High Schools. Once teachers are trained by OTEC to deliver Service Excellence, they are also qualified to deliver the other 4 programs listed above.

    Note: Licensing Agreements must be active for the schools at which these programs are taught.

  • Currently, the Ontario Ministry of Education has made Service Excellence a required program to be taught at high schools that are delivering the Specialist High Skills Major in Tourism, Hospitality and Business. This is a proud recognition for OTEC’s award-winning program, and we are honoured to be working with the Education sector to help students explore the many career opportunities tourism has to offer!

  • Tourism Essentials is an emerit Foundation Credential that is widely delivered in the Education sector, especially to Ontario High School students involved in the Specialist High Skills Major in Tourism and Hospitality. For information regarding the costs involved in delivering these programs in an Ontario High School, please speak with our Manager, Workforce Skills Development, Kamaljeet Singh (ksingh@otec.org), who will be delighted to answer any questions you may have.

    From the East:
    Take Hwy 401 – West
    Exit at Hwy 427 – South (keep to right lane)
    Exit at Burnhamthorpe Road – East (keep to left lane)
    Turn left at 2nd set of traffic lights into The East Mall (keep to left lane)
    Turn left at the first street called Four Seasons Place
    We are in Building 21 on the 3rd Floor!

    From the West:
    Take Hwy 401 – East
    Exit at Hwy 427 – South (keep to right lane)
    Exit at Burnhamthorpe Road – East (keep to left lane)

    From the South (downtown Toronto):
    Take the Gardiner – West
    Exit at Hwy 427 – North (keep to right lane)

    Turn left at the first street called Four Seasons Place
    We are in Building 21 on the 3rd Floor!

    Note: Metered parking is available at our corporate complex for a maximum of $5.00 per day.

  • The best way to get to the OTEC Training Centre by public transit is by taking the TTC subway and bus.

    Via the TTC:

    Take the Westbound subway to Kipling station (the last stop)
    Take bus number 111 from Kipling station
    Get off at corner of The East Mall and Burnhamthorpe Road
    You will see: Etobicoke Medical Centre diagonally across the road and a building behind it with a blue “SYSCO” sign (this is Building 21, where OTEC is located!)
    Cross the road, and walk towards the building
    We are in Building 21 on the 3rd Floor!

  • Yes! The Sandman Signature Hotel. Most of our participants from outside of the Greater Toronto Area stay here and receive a special OTEC rate! The Sandman Signature Hotel is located at:

  • The OTEC Head Office in Toronto is open Monday through to Friday from 9am to 5pm. We will be closed on the following statutory holidays in 2008:

    New Year’s Day – January 1
    Family Day – February 18
    Good Friday – March 21
    Easter Monday – March 24
    Victoria Day – May 19
    Canada Day – July 1
    Civic Holiday – August 4
    Labour Day – September 1
    Thanksgiving Day – October 13
    Christmas Day – December 25
    Boxing Day – December 26

    The OTEC Head Office in Toronto will also be closed on the days between December 25, 2008 and January 2, 2009, and will reopen at regular hours January 5, 2009.
