Two New Program Manager’s for OTEC

For Immediate Release: July 3, 2007

Vicki Lymburner, President & CEO of OTEC – Training and H. R. Solutions (operated under the Ontario Tourism Education Corporation) is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Managers’.

Helen Tam joins OTEC as Manager, Employment & Skills Development, and Brian McGillivary as Manager, Business Development & Marketing. Both begin on July 3, 2007.

Helen has over 12 years experience in for-profit and non-profit/education sectors. She was most recently Program Co-ordinator, Clerical Employment Services, Skills For Change. Previous employment included: Recruitment & Special Events Co-ordinator, Centennial College, and Market Analyst and Office Manager for TEMBEC Inc. From 2004 to present, Helen has also been an English As a Second Language Instructor for a number of organizations.

Helen has a Bachelor of Arts from University of Toronto specializing in Labour Management Relations & Sociology, as well as an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University, specializing in Strategic Planning & Marketing. She also holds a TESL (Teach English as a Second Language) Ontario Certificate, and is currently taking her Teacher of Adults Certificate Program.

Helen will oversee OTEC’s Labour Market Development initiatives including the Ready to Work Project for Internationally Trained individuals, as well as Education, Employment and Social Service Sector employment and skill development programs.

Brian McGillivary comes to OTEC with over 15 years of business development and marketing experience most recently as Owner, and Manager, Business Development – The Knowledge Base. His previous employment included: Proposal Writer for Shepell-fgi; Manager, Corporate & Institutional Sales, Indigo Books & Music Inc.; and a Partner, Consulting Group for the Business Development Bank of Canada.

Brian has a Diploma of Applied Arts, Business Administration as well as a Diploma of Applied Arts, Business – Marketing, both from George Brown College.

Brian will have responsibility for implementing OTEC’s sales and business development strategies, promoting our training and consulting services, managing client relationships and OTEC’s marketing and database programs.

OTEC – Training & H.R. Solutions is a not-for-profit, independent training, human resource development and service organization which has evolved from the 2005 consolidation of the Ontario Tourism Education Corporation (OTEC) established in 1991, and Customer Service Excellence Corporation (CSEC) established in 2001. Originally formed through a partnership with industry, government, labour and education to offer training programs, standards, certification and consulting services to aid the development of front line, supervisory and management staff in the tourism and hospitality sectors, the organization has evolved to provide an extensive range of “Customer Service & Management Excellence” and specialized training products for the education, healthcare, transportation, financial services and manufacturing markets, as well as employment centres, and social service businesses across Ontario, nationally, and internationally.

OTEC is Ontario’s representative on the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC), the national sector council for tourism, funded by Human Resources Development Canada. The administration of national programs, the sale of federally developed training materials, based on nationally recognized standards, coupled with the fulfillment of federal contracts provided to OTEC by the CTHRC, provides some of the operating funds for the Corporation.
