OTEC Announces New Board Chair & Director

For Immediate Release: November 5, 2007

At the Annual General Meeting held October 22nd. the new Board of Directors for OTEC was elected. Vicki Lymburner, OTEC President & CEO states “OTEC is very fortunate to have such a dedicated group of volunteers representing a wide variety of businesses and interests”. Newly elected as Chair is Ms. Beatrice Schmied, CEO of the Ontario Public Transit Association. On the Board of OTEC for the past 3 years, and serving as Vice Chair the past two, Ms. Schmied has been instrumental in guiding OTEC in the areas of Accessibility Training, particularly for Ontario transit systems. Mr. Paul Dinner, Royal Bank of Canada will continue as Treasurer, and Anne Marshall, Elmhirst’s Resort assumes the role of Vice Chair.

Outgoing Chair Dr. Marion Joppe, is newly appointed University Research Chair in Tourism, University of Guelph and will continue to provide her leadership and expertise to OTEC for another year as Past Chair.

Joining OTEC as a new Director is Mr. Alister Mathieson, Dean, School of Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism, Humber College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning.

We would like to thank the following Board members who will continue on the Board for another year: Mr. Fred Lawlor, Vice President Procurement, Fairmont Raffles Hotels International; Mr. Anthony Hopkins, President, Anthony Hopkins and Associates; Ms. Janice Thomson, Executive Director, Niagara on the Lake Chamber of Commerce/VCB; Mr. Paul Dinner, Director Business Development Real Estate and Hospitality Markets Royal Bank of Canada ; Ms. Anne Marshall, Director of Sales and Marketing Elmhirst’s Resort; and Mr. Darrell Jarvis, Vice President, Construction and Design, Cara Operations Ltd.
