emerit® Professional Certification programs are based on National Occupational Standards developed and maintained by the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC). The standards are developed in consultation with key tourism industry stakeholders from across Canada.

The emerit Professional Certification process involves online or paper-based study, an examination, verification of industry experience, and performance evaluation in a real-world setting.

Once a candidate demonstrates mastery of the required skills and standards of a chosen occupation, Professional Certification is awarded. Successful candidates can also be awarded the following National Designations to use on their business cards, résumés and other personal documents:


Tourism Certified Professional (TCP)for graduates of a frontline emerit Professional Certification program.

Tourism Certified Supervisor (TCS) for graduates of a supervisory  emerit Professional Certification program.

Tourism Certified Manager (TCM) for graduates of a management emerit Professional Certification program.
