Tourism Essentials is an emerit Foundation Credential awarded to candidates who demonstrate mastery of the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to function at an entry-level position in the tourism sector.

Tourism Essentials involves studying from a workbook and completing a knowledge exam. OTEC will also verify each candidate’s employment background to ensure that the requirement for 30 hours of work experience or career preparation has been met. Candidates who successfully complete the exam and demonstrate this experience are awarded The Foundation Credential.

The Tourism Essentials Foundation Credential is a program that has been growing in demand in recent years. Interest groups who need to bridge into the tourism workforce and enhance their portfolio with a nationally recognized, industry-led credential include Internationally Trained Individuals, High School students and Adult Learners who wish to re-enter the employment market.
